For our preliminary video which we created in school time, we wanted to create a trailer which practiced different shots, lighting, effects and titles and looked as professional as possible.
We started with shots in darkness with small yet effective lights which allowed us to see the characters however not have the ability to see the surroundings which created a mysterious setting as viewers are unaware of what is behind, or watching the characters. The repeated image of the character in the white mask was produced by using a flash camera in a room with no light to create a fast moving effect to add fear to the audience and built tension as to what is about to happen within the trailer or the entire film.
We used shot reverse shot and over shoulder shots when filming two characters discussing how they believe something is 'following' them, alongside panning through a mirror in the following shots to practice a variety which we may consider to use within our final production. We also practiced the use of long shots, close ups etc along with zooming out of a shot practicing how steady we could keep the camera in different positions.
In terms of titles, we watched a variety of trailers for research to test when appropriate timings would be to include titles, we decided to have a single sentence split between different titles would be an effective idea to build tension and suspense. We also included professional film rating titles at the start of the video as well as creating our own film production company logo along with including a '15 rated' logo to all together make the production look as realistic as possible.
For the soundtrack, rather than using a continuous piece, i used Garage Band to create a unique sequence of sounds which worked alongside the trailer to create dramatic effects eg, slow and eery music was used in long/panning shots whilst quick thunder or screams were used within quick cut shots to shock or scare audiences and balance the range of shots and sounds within the trailer as a whole.
