Stereotypical Representations of Men and Women
(Taken 2, 2012)
Positive, Negative
Representations shown within Taken 2 trailer.
Women → Fragile (cannot fight back), Naive (no knowledge of how to help themselves or escape), Emotional (shown crying, look stressed and are scared), Weak (hiding, waiting to be rescued)
Overall in this clip, women are mainly showed in the negative light in terms of their stereotype, they seem helpless and totally reliant on the male.
Men → Protective (only focused on saving his family), Violent (guns, fighting), Strong Minded (will not give in), Strong (in both survival instincts and fighting skill)
In this clip, mainly positive stereotypical features of men are shown, the main male character is shown as the hero and even the violent parts of this trailer are seen as positive due to his reasons behind the actions.
Feminist view of trailer: When watching this trailer, feminists would probably respond negatively due to the lack of equality. The male character is given the hero role, and shown in a positive light whereas the women are continuously shown in a weak, helpless light as well as being highly dependent on the man.
